I have a XPS M1710 that probably close to 10 years old. It has been flawless in performance over the years. However, one day my audio just stopped working. In device manager it has a (!) next to my sound card SigmaTel High Definition Audio CODEC. When i go into the properties it says the following.
I am running Windows XP by the way...
"Device Status
Windows successfully loaded the device driver for this hardware but cannot fine the hardware device (Code 41)"
I decided to buy a new motherboard and recently installed the new motherboard and i have the exact same error.
I know this laptop is super old but this doesn't make any sense to me why the audio is still failing. I am going to un-install the new motherboard and make sure all the connections look good.
Any other advice? Can a dead speaker cause this or any other hardware?
Thanks
