So, today I finally received notice that my laptop (Dell XPS 13 9343) was eligible to upgrade to Windows 10. Eager to try all it's new features, I quickly noticed that my audio was not working. A quick trip to the Dell support site led me to install a whole bunch of new drivers, including the Realtek Audio driver. Everything working hunky dory, except.. the audio.
The symptoms:
- Hovering my mouse over the audio icon in my task bar shows (translated from Dutch) 'No device for audio installed'.
- Device manager shows the Realtek HD Audio. However, it says that the device can't be started.
- I tried installing, reinstalling and uninstalling the driver a couple of times. At the beginning I found myself in an installation loop. The installation wizard told me he had to uninstall the old drivers first and reboot. After which it showed me the same message. I completely uninstalled all Realtec audio related files and installed it. This time it worked, however the problem -and its symptoms- still unchanged.
- The diagnostic tool on the website of Dell showed nothing special.
- The automatic installation of drivers failed and I had to do everything manually.
- I disabled the automatic installation of update files for hardware, which probably enabled me to install the driver, with no avail.
I really do hope that any of you will be able to help me out here.
