Got this xps 13 9333 I7-4650u windows 7 home from the dell outlet store yesterday and have had problems with the sound pretty much from the start.
At first when setting up windows I noticed no sound at all. Installed a few updates and rebooted, then noticed some sounds but things hanging when trying to play any sound. Then rebooted and notice no sound at all again and it said No Audio Output Device is installed. I checked device manager and there was no audio device of any kind listed anywhere.
Continued installing windows updates, rebooted, still nothing. Installed the sound drivers from dell website, rebooted, sound seemed to work fine. Shutdown and went to bed.
Today booted it and straight back to square one, no sound device. I have done absolutely nothing since sound was working fine last night when I shut down, to sound being completely non-existant today when booting it up again.
when I first noticed I had no sound I looked in the bios and can't find a single mention of sound in there at all. I am using the latest A04 bios as well.
I now have no clue. Clearly it is possible to get sound working ok from it because last night for a brief time it was working fine. There appears to be nothing in the bios to turn sound on or off and I am not sure how it can be drivers if device manager is showing nothing at all to do with sound.
I spend hours last night installing windows updates but have not yet installed office or anything else and I am now hesitant to waste yet more hours on something I currently suspect to be some sort of hardware fault because it was a fresh install of windows 7 when I first turned it on and it went through selecting country, network etc. I need to use this damn laptop which took 1.5 weeks to be delivered! I have the coil whine issue as well which affects all of these laptops so when Dell finally get off their <ADMIN NOTE: Substitute character removed as per TOU> and fix it, it will no doubt have to be sent off to be fixed at that point as well!
