Fixing Playing Audio Problems

Over the last couple of months, I started having problems with the audio when trying to play dvds on media players (Media Player Classic and Windows Media Player).  The audio settings on both the media players and the laptop itself -- from what I can see -- are normal, so I don't have a clue as to what is causing the problem(s).  So, I didn't know what else to do but to come here -- can you folks please help me?  What do I need to do??  Please help!
